A Nairobi-based homemaker is US$1 million richer after winning the Dubai-based Duty-Free Lottery.
She is 45-year-old Tajinder Dhanjal. Her windfall resulted from buying a ticket online. The draw was part of the 2022 Dubai Duty-Free Millennium Millionaire promotion.
A Decade-Long Quest
The promotion, run by Dubai Duty-Free, is one of the largest travel retail operators in the United Arab Emirates. The winning homemaker entered the competition a decade ago before she took home the first prize, along with a German national.
Dhanjal is the third Kenyan to win the lottery since its start in 1999. She added that the win was a blessing from God and that she was unable to express how much she appreciated the windfall.
Lotteries Still a Popular Way of Legal Gambling
Late last year, a fellow Kenyan, Ashwani Ganjoo, scooped the prize. Lottery tickets have become a popular form of legal gambling in Kenya, attracting people who don’t participate in sports betting. The recent win is proof that they can certainly change the lives of those who enter them.
